Description
A rebar chair is a spacer used to hold reinforcing steel (rebar) at a fixed elevation above the base or form surface before and during concrete pouring. This ensures the rebar is embedded with the correct concrete cover for structural durability and protection. Chairs are left in place and become part of the hardened concrete matrix.
Features
Proper concrete cover: Elevating the rebar ensures it gets sufficient concrete cover (i.e., thickness of concrete around steel), which helps prevent corrosion and ensures structural codes are met.
Non-corrosive materials: Plastic or polypropylene chairs resist rust, thus avoiding staining of concrete and durability issues.
Stability during pour: Wide base or well-designed legs prevent movement from vibrators or flow of concrete, keeping rebar in position.
Ease of use: Chairs snap onto rebar easily, saving time and labour.
Applications
Used in concrete slabs, patios, driveways, garage floors, sidewalks: any cast-in-place flat work where steel reinforcement must be embedded.
For wire mesh reinforcement and rebar grids. Mesh chairs hold mesh elevated so concrete can fully surround the mesh.
In elevated slabs, precast concrete panels, tilt walls, where proper rebar elevation is critical.
Also used in foundations, footings, where building code requires specific concrete cover over rebar.
